Why Iguazú in September
Almost three kilometres of frontage, up to 275 cascades depending on water flow and an average drop of 60 metres: alongside Victoria and Niagara, Iguazú stands on the world podium of waterfalls, and for many travellers it is simply the most beautiful. Most of the falls are in Argentina, but the panoramic views are in Brazil, so the complete experience demands both sides. September, the start of the southern spring, offers mild 25 °C days, without the 37 °C summer heat and with good flow after the winter rains. The secret of Iguazú is where you sleep. Staying inside the Brazilian national park lets you walk to the falls at sunrise or sunset, when there is no one around, and watch the rainbows over the Devil's Throat in silence. It is one of those cases where the hotel completely changes the trip.
Taivas Tip
Two to four nights, and if you can, one on each side of the border. Start on the Brazilian side first thing (a one-kilometre boardwalk, suitable for grandparents and pushchairs) and dedicate a full day to the Argentine side, with breakfast inside the park before it opens. The 10-minute helicopter flight makes you grasp the scale; the Macuco Safari by private boat is the children's favourite plan (warning: everyone gets soaked). To finish, a tasting of artisanal cachaças with cheeses and chocolate at sunset.
