Edinburgh Festival Fringe
The world's largest arts festival — 25 days of theatre, comedy, dance, circus and music across 300+ venues in Edinburgh's historic Old Town. The most exhilarating cultural event on the planet.
The Edinburgh Festival Fringe runs 7–31 August 2026, transforming Scotland's extraordinary capital into the most concentrated creative event in the world. Over 3,000 shows are performed in 300+ venues — from the grandest theatres to basement bars, churches, courtyards and pub back rooms — by performers from over 60 countries.
The Fringe operates entirely on an open-access basis: any performer can come and present their work. This creates an unparalleled diversity — world premieres alongside student productions, stand-up comedians who will go on to global fame beside forgotten masters, circus performers, classical musicians and experimental theatre.
Edinburgh in August is also magnificent in itself. The International Festival, the Military Tattoo, the Book Festival and the Jazz Festival all take place simultaneously — making this the world's most concentrated festival fortnight. The city's Georgian New Town, volcanic Arthur's Seat, and the castle perched on its ancient rock provide an incomparable backdrop.
Why It's Worth the Journey
The Edinburgh Fringe is unlike anything else in the world — an extraordinary explosion of human creativity that has to be experienced to be believed. Combine it with Edinburgh's remarkable setting and the parallel International Festival for a truly unforgettable cultural journey.
